New Version Has Improved UI, Real-Time Preview, and Support for Intel Mac and 64-bit OS
Press Release: San Francisco — October 9th, 2007 — Digital Anarchy, a leading provider of cost-effective special effects software for Adobe and Apple products, has released version 3.0 of the acclaimed Knoll Light Factory. The new features in this Photoshop package give increased control over the look of hundreds of lighting effects, and further the creative abilities of photographers and designers to enhance existing images or create original works.

Knoll Light Factory is designed to create lens flares and other lighting effects, including lasers, explosions and suns. The most common use in photography is to enhance lights such as lamps, streetlights, sky elements, or candle flames. However, many designers also use Light Factory to create sparkling or glowing lights from scratch. Light Factory was originally written by John Knoll, the co-creator of Photoshop, to create the Photon Torpedoes in Star Trek First Contact.

Issue: When you start Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Update Manager returns the error “The Adobe Updater could not be started, please reinstall application and components.”
Solutions:
Do one of the following solutions:
Important: Solutions 1-3 work for hard disks formatted with the NT File System (NTFS). If your hard disk is formatted with the FAT32 file system, use solution 4.
To determine if your disk is formatted using NTFS, do the following:
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools (Windows XP) or Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tool (Windows 2000).
2. Double-click Computer Management.
3. Click Disk Management under Storage. The upper right pane lists each hard disk and the file system with which it’s formatted.
Solution 1: Edit the file permissions and then run the common files installer (Windows XP Professional, 2000).

There are some known issues with the Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta. For example running under MacIntel natively older non-Universal Binary plug-ins will not load into CS3. Also under MacIntel the normal brush size cursors are not working. The new UI can also “test” some Windows XP video drivers. Also, all plug-in filters will need to be updated to be used as Smart Filters in CS3. Read more info regarding issues on Scot Byer’s blog.

Source: Adobe Support Document TechNote: kb401492This document covers removing Photoshop CS3 public beta on Windows XP. For instructions explaining how to remove Photoshop CS3 public beta manually on Windows Vista, see document kb401501, “Manually remove Photoshop CS3 public beta (Windows Vista).”
Overview
Adobe recommends that you use the Adobe Photoshop CS3 public beta uninstaller in the Add Or Remove Programs utility in Windows to remove Photoshop CS3 public beta from the computer. Occasionally, however, damaged files or a partial installation may prevent the Photoshop CS3 public beta uninstaller from working correctly or may cause the uninstaller to leave files or empty application folders on the system after the removal is performed. You may also notice Photoshop CS3 public beta missing from the Add Or Remove Programs list or find that the installer only displays the Repair and Remove options when you try to install Photoshop CS3 public beta.
Manually removing Photoshop CS3 public beta ensures that all files and folders are removed. Please note that these instructions are for removing Photoshop CS3 public beta. If you have other/previous versions of Adobe applications installed, then be sure to remove only the files below that relate to Photoshop CS3 public beta. These steps also remove any extra content (for example, Goodies or Functional Content) that you may have installed with Photoshop CS3 public beta.
Note: Your system may not contain all of the files and folders listed in this document. If you do not find a listed file or folder on your system, then you should proceed to the next file or folder on the list.
Before you begin
Some of these procedures require you to locate hidden files and hidden folders. Some procedures require you to locate files by their full file names, which include extensions (for example, example_filename.ini). By default, Windows Explorer doesn’t show hidden files, hidden folders, or file name extensions that it recognizes.
To show hidden files, hidden folders, and all file name extensions in Windows Explorer:
- In Windows Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options.
- Click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box.
- In Advanced Settings, select Show Hidden Files And Folders.
- Deselect Hide Extensions For Known File Types.
- Click OK.
