Scott’s Lightroom Tour–LIVE!
Last week I stopped by Scott Kelby’s Lightroom LIVE Tour as he blew through the Windy City (that’s Chicago for you folks from away). I grabbed a few shots while visiting. Warning, no particularly important editorial content (but funny shots) included.
Scott had a crowd of over 500 Lightroom officianatos who gave him their rapt attention.
Well, until he introduced me… I was a “visiting artist” whose primary job would be to answer questions at the breaks and lunch (he promised me lunch–cool huh?).
Scott covered all the basics as well as a lot of tips and techniques for making the best use of Lightroom.
Another special guest was there that day, Terry White from Adobe.
Scott covered the Lightroom Sharpening (which I was involved in working on) very well. I told him “no errors and only one omission”, seems Scott had never found the Lightroom Presets for Portrait and Landscape image sharpening. Not a problem Scott, even Terry didn’t know they were there (neither did George Jardine, Lightroom evangelist).
Most of the people sat there and many followed along on their own computers.
At the breaks, Scott made himself available for questions…

Then it was back to cover everything Lightroom you could possibly want to know.

At the lunch break, Scott answered questions and autographed books.
Then it was off to lunch, when Scott said a “box lunch” I didn’t know it was going to come in a cardboard box. But to be honest, I didn’t come for lunch (good thing too).
Outside of the main room there were vendors–you could buys books-from Scott as well as other authors.
Other World Computing was there to talk about computers.
Data Robotics, the guys who make Drobo the raid solution, were there too.
B&H Photo was there with “Show Specials”.
Photoshop User magazine was there (well DUH) signing up a few new members–seems most of the attendees were NAPP members already.
Wescott Lighting was there–Scott uses their lighting in the seminar on the road.
Even Corel was there (Corel?)
After lunch it was back to the stage to get ready for the rest of the afternoon.
Scott asked me to set up a shot of flowers (even looked through a real Nikon camera–it’s been years since I’ve done that).
Scott was preparing for the shoot and double-checking some of the stuff he had previously imported.
I gave some “special shots” of Johnny L from Adobe (in the event he needed material for the Photoshop World keynote coming up).
Of course, by the time Scott got over to the set, the flowers had moved. He was trying to be brave and shoot live while tethered to Lightroom. Would have worked really well, but the Nikon camera controls software hadn’t been activated on that computer. It launched with the demo already timed out.
Scott wasn’t amused…
But handled it well. He launched the software, and a browser and bought it online in front of the crowd with his AmEx credit card. (I got his number). Once he entered the serial numbers in, all was good and he took some shots which auto-imported into Lightroom.
Scott likes to get down from the stage sometimes and wander while he talks.
The attendees enjoyed the presentation and learned a lot. I had to escape a bit early since I had to drive back into the city from Rosemont (which isn’t even in the same area code). We were going to try to get together at my studio but Scott was invited to go see the Chicago Bears play their last pre-season game, in, get this, the owner’s skybox. Hum, let’s see, visit a photo studio or go to the Bear’s game in a luxury skybox? I agree with Scott, forget the studio. Only problem is the Bears lost, but who cares, it was still pre-season.
